Southern Illinois Commando Krav Maga Instructor Levi Wampler
Levi Wampler began formal training in martial arts in 1997 while
attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Initially he
trained in Aikido at the SIUC Recreation Center.
In the years since he has trained in several forms and styles of
martial arts.
In 1998, he went to Basic and Advanced Training for the Army
National Guard. When he came back to SIUC after his Army training,
he decided to try a Judo class, which was offered there. After a few
months of Judo, Levi decided that competition focused martial arts
was not for him. After searching, he found a Wing Chun Kung Fu
School in Carbondale, Illinois, that was more focused on the
practical application of useful techniques.
While training in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Levi also trained in Jeet Kune
Do/Gracie Jujitsu for two semesters at the Southern Illinois
University Carbondale Recreation center. Levi put his Jeet Kune
Do/Gracie Jujitsu training on hold while he concentrated on his Wing
Chun Kung Fu.
Levi continued his extensive training in Wing Chun for the next few
years until his teacher graduated from college and moved away. After
this a friend introduced him to Kali, Levi trained with his friend
in this art for a couple of years.
While Levi was training with his friend in Kali, he was also
training in Tai Chi in Carbondale, Illinois under Master Han. While
training with Master Han, Levi studied Yang style Tai Chi self
defense forms along with Yang style relaxation, both long and short
forms.
Levi continued his study of martial arts until his National Guard
unit was called up for active duty in Iraq in 2003. While in Iraq,
Levi continued his martial arts training by teaching his fellow
soldiers basic self-defense skills. While in Iraq his interest for
practical, real world methods of self-defense grew.
After returning from Iraq Levi decided to pursue his desire to learn
a system of self-defense, which concentrates on practical, real
world situations, namely guns. While practicing martial arts in Iraq
Levi realized that none of the systems that he had trained in dealt
very effectively with guns. After some research into a practical and
efficient system of self-defense, Levi discovered Moni Aizik and
Commando Krav Maga. Levi’s study of Commando Krav Maga showed him
that the system would prepare a person for true street combat
situations. Levi Wampler earned his level 2 Commando Krav Maga
instructors certificate in April of 2007.
His Commando Krav Maga level 3-instructor test in is May of 2008.
Levi is currently teaching Commando Krav Maga in Carbondale,
Illinois.
He recently began training in LucayLucay Kali with Wes Bennett of
West
Frankfort, Illinois.
Commando Krav Maga will prepare you for true street combat.
